What are Bandages?
Bandages are staple materials found in a first aid kit. They can be used for supporting other medical products such as splints or dressing or can be used independently to give support or confine movement of a specific body part.
At ExpressMed, we offer a wide range of bandages depending on its material. Here is an overview of the different types and their advantages:
- Moleskin Bandage - This is usually used to prevent blisters, calluses, chafing and corns and most bandages of this type are with zinc oxide-based adhesive to prevent skin irritation.
- Cotton and Polyester Bandage - This is the most common material used by manufacturers and has stood the test of time. This is because one-ply cotton and polyester bandages have been proven to provide comfort given their soft material and breathable nature. Also, they can be extremely absorbent that’s why they are mostly used in securing IVs and splints.
- Elastic Bandage - This is also made from the blend of polyester and cotton but it is much more elastic compared to the other type. At the same time, it’s also slightly thicker and because it usually comes with Velcro on both ends, it’s easy to secure it in place. This is best for low compression situations.
